Who We Are

The philosophy of hospice is that dying is a natural part of life. When medicine cannot find a cure, we offer a specially-trained team of caregivers dedicated to providing comfort, compassion, and guidance to patients and their families.

The goal of hospice is keeping the patient in the environment of choice, as pain and symptom-free as possible, as alert and active as desired, with loved ones nearby as one approaches the end of their life.

Hospice care affirms life—it neither hastens nor postpones death.

Harris Hospice has a solid foundation and a long-term commitment to our patients and our community. Our patients are the reason we exist, and everything we do is focused on making sure we meet their needs.

It is not easy to lose your husband of XX years. But God had a plan—He gave us the Harris Hospice Group. What a blessing each one was to my girls and me.

Understanding Hospice Care

What does hospice and palliative care services really do?

Hospice provides specialized care services, including palliative care, (patient care including symptom management, emotional support, spiritual support and psychosocial intervention), addressing issues most important to the patient’s needs and wants at the end of their life focusing on improving the individual’s quality of life.

When should hospice be called?

Hospice should be called at any time the patient has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. It is appropriate to discuss all of the patient’s care options, including hospice.

How do I know when it is time for end-of-life care?

Patients are eligible for hospice care when they have been diagnosed with a terminal illness with a prognosis of 6 months or less. At that time, comfort, care, and symptom management become the primary focus, and curative treatment is no longer the patient’s choice or option.

Where is hospice and palliative care provided?

Hospice and palliative care is provided in a setting that best meets the needs of each patient and family. The most common setting is the patient’s home. Hospice and palliative care is also provided in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals according to patient care needs.
